This plugin connects WordPress to Cloudflare Workers AI, making its hosted large language models available to any WordPress feature or plugin that uses the WordPress AI Client (introduced in WordPress 7.0). Supported models The plugin fetches the full list of available text generation models directly from your Cloudflare account and shows them in the settings dropdown, so you always see what is actually available to you. The list is cached for 12 hours and refreshed whenever you save your credentials. A built-in fallback list is used when your credentials are not yet configured or the API is unreachable. See Cloudflare’s model catalogue for the current full list. Why Cloudflare Workers AI? Unlike hosted AI services that charge per seat or per API call at a premium rate, Cloudflare Workers AI runs inference at the edge on a usage-based model. The free tier covers 10,000 neurons per day (Cloudflare’s billing unit — roughly 200–500 average generation requests) — enough for a content-heavy site to generate post summaries, meta descriptions, and moderation checks without any cost. Paid usage is billed per neuron, making it significantly cheaper at scale compared to per-token pricing from closed providers. Your prompts and completions also never leave Cloudflare’s network to reach a third-party AI company’s servers, which matters for sites with privacy or data-residency requirements. What you need A Cloudflare account with Workers AI enabled. Your Account ID — visible on the Workers AI dashboard sidebar. A Cloudflare API token with the “Workers AI – Edit” permission. Usage Once the plugin is configured, any WordPress AI Client-compatible feature or plugin will automatically use Cloudflare Workers AI as its provider. This plugin does not add a chatbot or front-end widget by itself. It registers the provider so that other AI Client-powered features, plugins, and themes can use it. External Services This plugin connects to the Cloudflare Workers AI REST API to run AI inference. The service is used to: Run text generation requests against the model you select. Verify your Account ID and API token when you click “Test connection”. What data is sent and when When you click “Test connection” in the plugin settings, your Account ID and API token are sent to https://api.cloudflare.com/client/v4/accounts/{account_id}/ai/models/search to verify the credentials. No prompt data is sent during this check. When a compatible AI Client feature generates text, the plugin sends your API token, the selected model ID, and the prompt messages to https://api.cloudflare.com/client/v4/accounts/{account_id}/ai/run/{model_id}. I wanted a place where small bits of code are organized, safe, AI-assisted, and reusable everywhere. Here’s the idea. You write a function (or let the AI write it for you from a plain-English description). That function immediately shows up in three places: AI Engine: your chatbots and MCP clients (Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code) can call it as a tool, with real arguments. Ask “how many orders shipped today?” and your chatbot runs your function to answer. Workflow Engine: your function appears in the step picker as its very own block. Describe the snippet in plain language and Code Engine, powered by AI Engine, generates the whole thing: the code, a sensible name, a description, the right scope, and, for functions, the argument list with names, types, and defaults. It’s a reusable capability that the rest of your stack can plug into. The moment you save it, the same function is available in three places at once: 1. As an AI tool, for chatbots and AI agents With AI Engine active, your functions are exposed through function calling and over MCP (Model Context Protocol). Your on-site chatbot can run them mid-conversation, and external AI agents (Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, OpenClaw) can call them too. Want a chatbot that checks stock, looks up a booking, or kicks off a process? Write the function; the chatbot gains the skill. 2. As a workflow step, for automation With Workflow Engine, every active function shows up in the Add-step picker as its own block, named after your snippet, with one input per argument. As a REST endpoint, for the outside world Give a snippet a custom endpoint name and a bearer token, and it’s instantly callable from anywhere: POST /wp-json/code-engine/v1/snippets-endpoint/your-endpoint Pass arguments as JSON in the body, secure it with a token, and trigger it from Make.com, n8n, Zapier, GitHub Actions, or a humble cron job. Automation without a middleware bill. 🛡️ Safe by default Running arbitrary code is powerful, so Code Engine takes safety seriously: Safe Mode catches fatal errors and auto-disables the offending snippet, so a typo never white-screens your site. REST whitelisting means global snippets only run on trusted REST routes by default, so you choose what to open up. Per-snippet tokens secure your external endpoints. Validation with a real PHP parser before code is saved. For developers who want fewer guardrails, there’s a “Bypass REST Security” option and filters (mwcode_rest_authorized, mwcode_rest_whitelist) to tailor exactly what’s allowed.
